Probably one of the most under-appreciated games ever made, I thought it was about time for Shadow of the Colossus to get the light it deserves.

I know, it's hard for most gamers to look at a game that they dont know that much about, havent really heard much of, and pay the $50 or so for a game that might just be okay. But fear not, this is one game that was so worth the money!

The graphics and sound is rather average, but the gameplay... now that's to die for! The story: you ride into a temple, some sort of shrine, with a dead girl you lay on the alter. All these dark spirit like things come out, you ask them to revive your girl from the dead. They will... if you kill these 12 Colossi that wonder around the world. So you take your sword, that has some awesome power to show you where to go, mount up on your trusty steed Argo, and ride off to kick some stone hard ass!

Now... the gameplay might seem like it should be repetitive, right? You have no idea how wrong that assumption is. The gameplay is surprisingly unique. There's basically only bosses, each in their own little pit or tower or swamp... and the strategy to kill each of them is VERY different. It takes a lot of strategical thinking to get you started, but once you figure out how to coax the boss out of it's hiding spot, or how to knock it off it's feet and on the ground, or how to shoot it out of the sky, etc, it's not only satisfying, but you get that "Man, that was clever! i should get patted on the back for that" sensation, which in a game today, is hard to come by.

Like the gameplay, story line seems rather dull and repetitive most of the time you play thru it, but bear with it and play thru it the first time. By the end, you'll understand EVERYTHING, probably scream at the plot twists in the credits... and to make it worth while, there's a Legendary-like mode you unlock that allows you to gain items that help you slaughter more colossi faster. Sweet? You bet!

So, if you still have a PS2, and you're not afraid to dish out a good $20 or less for a really original, decent game, Shadow of the Colossus is a great choice.
